December 16, 2012: Attend the H at 3:00 pm and make it an informal "Shire" activity. Hope to see you there, preferably dressed in garb. I recommend pre-purchasing tickets on Fandango if you plan to attend. We'll try to meet at the theater (Carmike 10 on Knollwood Ave) no later than 2:15 pm.
Thank you to everyone who attended Twelfth Night this weekend - we had a blast! Also, thank you to those who lent a hand setting up, tearing down, or helping out in the kitchen.
I was only able to snag a few pictures, but you can also check out the video that Beatriu took of the Tourney of Fools. If you have pictures that you want to share here, send me an e-mail.
On Monday, Orlaith and I had the pleasure of Mistress Edwinna of Hawk's Bluff's company and assistance with the remaining panels. You can see pictures of our progress below.
Keep your eyes and hears peeled for when we're meeting to work on them next!
As I desperately search for image references for the last panel, the rest of the shire has been painting away!
So without further ado, here are more pictures!
We'll be painting again tomorrow (Thursday the 22nd) if you want to come by between 10 AM and 5 PM to lend a hand!
We're in a mad rush to get all the art for the windows done so that the only thing left to do is paint them in.
Here's our progress so far!
This past Friday I got together with Orlaith to work on the decor some more. We got the shadows and highlights done one the last panel, and I got the "lead lines" for one of the windows finished. You can see it to the right.
I want to thank everyone who has helped with this project - we're making great time, and the four panels should be done in plenty of time for Twelfth Night in Shchattentor. The main thing left to do (other than painting the "stained glass) is to texture the PVC pipe frames to look like stone.
For those of you who are wondering, the panel frames were constructed using ten foot lengths of PVC cut to make an approximately four feet (47", if memory serves - I don't have my diagram in front of me) by six feet (69.75") rectangle. There's a three inch connector under the bottom bar that hooks into four foot (two feet on either side) stabilizing feet. The muslin panels are measured to fit with a channel on the top (that's maybe 2 inches) and then stretched on the frame to create the channel on the bottom. There are also side loops that are approximately two inches by seven inches. I hemmed these using the side of my presser foot as my allowance and then we pinned them to the panels to create the necessary side tension. Then the whole thing got taken off again to go into my sewing machine one more time. I can't even guess at the dimensions of our brick template right now - but I can later if people are interested in making their own panels.
Our original ideas was to be able to connect the panels together to make a room. The four we have right now have elbow joints at the top (as opposed to t-joints) so that they are stand-alone, but there is no reason why they couldn't get switched out. We also still need to purchase caps for the ends of the feet, to make them look a bit more finished.
If you have questions about the way the frames/panels are put together, just let me know! I'm happy to share.

So the last time we got together to work on the modular decor, we made a lot of progress. All of the panels are painted gray, and a total of three are ready for the window detail. We will only have one or two more sessions working on these, but I'm confident in our ability to meet our goal to get four panels done before Twelfth Night.
Our Arts and Sciences meeting (plus an emergency business meeting) was held tonight, and I want to thank everyone who was able to make it and lend a hand making site tokens for Twelfth Night as well as talk about and decide on a new Exchequer.
Lastly, I want to thank Caecilia for stepping up to be Schattentor's new Exchequer and Isabeau for being her deputy. Thank you both for volunteering for this responsibility and helping to keep our shire going strong!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
If you're not too exhausted from shopping/eating leftovers by Saturday, we'd love it if you came to join us for another decor painting session. We're ready to do the details on one of the panels, and the others will be getting their side tension loops sewn on. So even if you don't want to pick up a brush, there are other things to do as well.
We'll be meeting in the back room of C R Yarn at 519 Main Street at about 1 PM.
See you there!
